(UPDATED) Nanooks Keep Rolling With a 4-3 Win Over Michigan

Both teams came out of the chute ready to play, but the Wolverines jumped out to the early 1-0 lead on the 1st shot of the game. It was really like 3 shots, but it's only going to count as one. Di Giusseppe stationed on the back doorstep when a shot came down from Brennan Serville, and after about 3 whacks at it, Phil was able to get it over Greenham's blocker. Kind of a heartbreaker, but it really got the Nanooks offense fired up.

Meyers and his line really dug hard, Gehon and Filzen were really moving well, but it was the top line that drive it home. Cody Kunyk in his ever-so-sly ways did a great job reading the play, realizing where Gens was shooting and got in the perfect position to take the rebound. Cody just does that so well, reading the play and moving accordingly. And he created and bagged his 6th of the year.

The second period, the Nooks showed Michigan how ready they were, and Colton Beck and the 'Nooka went off. 2 goals in 7 seconds. The first one was blast from Quinn at the point with Beck in front as the puck barely cleared his shoulder. Just 7 seconds later, Beck wound up and blasted the shot outside the circle and in for his first goal of the game.

A minute later, Michigan inched forward even more as Lee Moffie notched his 2nd of the year, a good goal off a Di Giuseppe pass across the middle on the rush. Can't fault Greenham on that one, Michigan was coming hard, and the 2 Nanook blueliners were outnumbered 4-2. The Nanooks though we're able to stave off a hard Michigan attack as the Nanooks were flagged for too many men on the ice that cut a power play chance short. Just a bad change, and one forward neglected to come off.

The penalty ultimately resulted in a power play for Michigan, and they fought hard, clawing for every shot, and Taranto made a big clear, and eventually set up a bit of a shorthanded chance for Yaremchuk that Hunwick had to stay sharp to stop, and he did.

As the Nanooks kept grinding, the period ended, and they went to the locker room ahead 3-2 and their heads high. The guys played very well.

As the 3rd period began, both sides fought hard, with Michigan fighting for every inch, but Colton Beck drove the dagger through their collective hearts for his second of the game, coming in the dirty area and beating Hunwick to the puck.

David Wohlberg had a pretty big goal just past the halfway point, on a 2 on 1 chance created by a strong forechecking job by Chris Brown. Wohlberg got the centering pass just outside the front of the crease and shot high stick side over Greenham's blocker.

With the 'Nooks 4-3 win, they are now 4-1 in their last 5, getting huge points and gaining more and more momentum into the break. With one more game tomorrow, coach West said it best "with one more to go, ya can't leave anything in the tank." Leave it all on the ice. And the Nanooks will look for the sweep tomorrow, same time, same place.

After doubting him a bit, I have to say Greenham has been outstanding in the last 3 series. Even with the 3 tallies tonight, he still played great. Michigan had alot of good looks and could have easily posted 7 or 8 had he not been sharp. He's a real nice guy too. He was great with the kids during the meet and greet. Glad to see all the hard work by the team is leading to wins now.

Nice W tonight. Definitely agree about Greenham getting back in his groove; Michigan's second goal was a laser that would have beaten anybody.

Michigan is going to bring the house tonight, though. Assuming we do the same it should be a great game.
